| HRH The Princess Royal Officially Opens Our New Environmental Research Facilities At Brixham, UK |
HRH The Princess Royal visited AstraZeneca’s research site at Brixham, UK, on Tuesday 13 May to officially open new environmental laboratories there.
Escorted by David Brennan, Chief Executive Officer, and Nigel Shillabeer, Brixham Environmental Laboratory’s Site Manager, the Princess Royal toured the new facilities and took the opportunity to meet and talk with some of the staff who explained their role in studying the effect of pharmaceuticals in the environment (PIE).
Our £13 million investment in the new facilities at Brixham strengthens our ongoing commitment to PIE research. Our 85 scientists there work both independently and in collaboration with other companies, leading academics and regulatory bodies to advance knowledge in this area. The new state-of-the art laboratories will help to ensure that AstraZeneca remains at the forefront of this continuously evolving area of research.
Speaking at the opening ceremony Chief Executive Officer, David Brennan, said: "AstraZeneca’s mission is to ‘make the most meaningful difference to patient health through great medicines.’ At the same time, we have a responsibility to do this in a manner that is protective of natural resources. Our new facility at Brixham is a prime example of how we are working to fulfil both of these objectives: a state of the art research laboratory that will help us continue to ensure that the medicines we develop to benefit patients can be used without harming the environment."
