Structural chemistry

The Structural Chemistry capability uses advanced technology, including X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance, to determine the structure and function of molecules.

Using three-dimensional molecular images, researchers in the unit can study the interaction between target proteins and substances identified as possible drugs. Based on the knowledge they get and by using advanced computational approaches they can search for alternative drug candidates. They can then refine these substances to improve their activity and
specificity and thus produce a more effective drug.

This capability is based in laboratories in Mölndal, Sweden and Alderley Park, UK.
