The Biological Chemistry capability provides experimental biological support to projects aimed at the design of new or novel chemical libraries for selected high priority protein target classes.

This unit, which houses scientific experts in mechanistic enzymology, molecular pharmacology and advanced assay technology, aims to exploit novel mechanisms to aid the design of unique starting points for new drugs.

The main objective for the Biological Chemistry capability is thus to further enhance the quality of AstraZeneca’s global corporate chemical compound bank. In addition, detailed mechanistic studies are undertaken of novel compounds to delineate the precise mechanism of action on their disease targets.

The Biological Chemistry capability is based in state-of-the-art laboratories in Alderley Park, UK.
