AstraZeneca has a strong commitment to human genetics, an area of research that promises to transform our understanding of human health and disease in the coming years. The Research & Development Genetics unit, based at Alderley Park in the UK, aims to drive the uptake and application of genetics across the entire drug discovery and development pipeline. We work in partnership with disease area specialists, clinicians and other professionals within AstraZeneca to improve the delivery of new medicines for people across the world. Our activities include - the evaluation of genetic variation in the proteins that are the targets for our drugs
- the use of genetics to discover or validate proteins that can be targets for new drugs
- the study of genes involved in the individual’s response to drug therapy
To deliver these activities, we rely on our world-class facilities, which include high throughput and GLP genotyping, DNA sequencing, DNA archiving and statistical analysis. We also invest in strategic external collaborations to complement our internal work and to evaluate new technologies. |
