Rational drug design starts with the identification of molecular targets. These are usually proteins. Based on a scientific platform of expression science, microbial fermentation, cell culture, protein purification and protein characterization, this capability unit supplies large amounts of recombinant proteins, cells or cell fractions to all Discovery projects to facilitate and enable

The capability is based in Södertälje, Sweden and at Alderley Park, UK.

A special facility within the unit is the Biopharma laboratory at Södertälje. This facility supports Research & Development project teams globally in progressing biopharmaceutical products from inception, through preclinical development, to completion of clinical concept testing in man and technical transfer to full manufacturing status. It provides process development for cell culture and purification and pilot production of recombinant therapeutic proteins and monoclonal antibodies.
