NEW STUDY SHOWS THAT ASTHMA VARIABILITY STILL EXISTS DESPITE STRICT ADHERENCE TO NATIONAL MANAGEMENT GUIDELINESopens in a new window
Patients continute to be symptomatic
A study presented today at the 100th International Conference of the American Thoracic Society in Orlando shows that many patients enrolled in a clinical study that followed the asthma treatment guidelines outlined by the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program and published by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), still suffered from asthma symptoms and poor lung function between clinic visits, despite simultaneous decreases of many of the serious events associated with asthma. The guidelines include recommendations that support use of long-term controller asthma medications to achieve and maintain control for persistent asthma. more

JOINED FORCES TO IMPROVE CHOLESTEROL LOWERING DRUG COMPLIANCEopens in a new window
One of the largest insurers in the US and AstraZeneca will conduct a joint study to evaluate how technology can improve patient medication compliance. This study will measure how Voice Activated Technology (VAT) can help patients better understand and monitor their medication and support patient needs. The VAT study will address issues such as motivation, self-confidence and barriers, while evaluating what prompts patients to take their cholesterol-lowering medication as directed and follow their course of treatment.

AstraZeneca today celebrates the opening of a state-of-the-art Automated Compound Management Facility (ACMF) at their Wilmington R&D campus. Part of a four-year, $165 million investment in US research facilities, this latest $13 million addition is one of four new AstraZeneca drug discovery research facilities of its kind worldwide.

ASTRAZENECA ANNOUNCES LATEST PHASE OF UK £1 BILLION INVESTMENT PROGRAMME
AstraZeneca has announced two major investments in the UK with the imminent opening of major new facilities in Alderley Park, Macclesfield, Cheshire, and additional investment to support the development of its research site in Charnwood, Loughborough, Leicestershire. These latest developments will mean that AstraZeneca’s investment in the UK (from 1999 and planned until 2006), will have approached a potential £1 billion, with the creation of well over 550 new science related jobs.
