Arimidex (anastrozole)

Arimidex™ (anastrozole), an oral aromatase inhibitor (AI), is an endocrine (hormonal) therapy for the treatment of hormone-sensitive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. ARIMIDEX was first launched in 1995 for the treatment of advanced disease and the first approvals for early breast cancer treatment followed in 2002.

Based on the recent 100-month analysis of the ATAC trial – one of the largest breast cancer treatment studies ever to report mature data - ARIMIDEX remains the only AI to confirm its superiority to tamoxifen at preventing recurrence beyond the completion of the five-year recommended adjuvant (post surgery) treatment period.

ARIMIDEX has accumulated over three million patient years’ clinical experience and has now become the world’s most used AI, leading to it being increasingly recognised as a new standard of care for the hormonal treatment of early breast cancer. ARIMIDEX is widely available with worldwide approval in the advanced breast cancer setting, and approval in adjuvant early breast cancer in over 80 countries.
